The purpose of this study is to explore the life of a transgender woman through animation-making activity as a part of art therapy and to qualitatively investigate the therapeutic significance of animation as a tool. A narrative inquiry appropriate for understanding the structure and meaning of the story in everyday experiences was applied for this study. A 35-years-old transgender woman named Nana (alias) participated in the study. The art therapy was proceeded with two 120 minutes sessions a week over total of 16 sessions. The participant reconstructed her life in-depth, from the past to the present, in seven different short stories: , , , , and . During the art therapy, the participant reproduced these stories into animations titled , , , , and with 5 separate topics. The research provides an opportunity to understand a life of a transgender woman, who is living as a sexual minority in the Korean society, and the implication of the study is that it builds a scaffolding for further investigations on the therapeutic aspects of animation as a tool in art therapy.
